We don’t realize how many skills have to come together to master handwriting!!! An OT is trained to break down and analyze all components of handwriting then find the most efficient way to teach the skill.

OTs also take into consideration the developmental stage that the child is at so that our expectations match the child’s development.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Many times, the advanced curriculums in school don’t take this into consideration thus creating compensatory ways for children to hold a pencil and practice writing strokes. Keep in mind that sometimes, their brains are just not ready. We need to honor that. Start where they ARE at and build up from there.

Children learn so much through active play. The benefits are endless! They have all the time in the world to learn their academics! However, we can never give them back the years of play that we rob them from when putting too much focus on academics, too many hours on electronics, keeping them from making a mess, not encouraging outdoor play in nature!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
