Working on Presence with your child

The only moment we have is NOW. We can’t wait for circumstances to be perfect in order to show up as the parent we want to be for our children. It’s not, when I have more time, when I won’t have to go to work, when I get all my errands done, when I’ll feel less stressed…..it’s NOW. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Be the parent you want to be to your child NOW…Our window of time with them is so short. The choices you make today in your NOW moments, becomes the parent you are in the future. All we have is Now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When interacting with your child, really be present. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Play with them like you would if you were really friends. Ie. Enjoy the game, share about your day and about some of your stories, play with wonder and excitement!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Be present in every moment. When you are with them to give them a bath, you are not doing 100 other things.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Leave behind the distraction of your phone.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Have dinner together instead of feeding the children.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Be mindful of how you speak with your child. Are you conversing with them or speaking at them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Enjoy your little bugger!!! The wisdom (and humor) that comes out of their mouths is priceless!!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Lately I have been so aware of the way life has gone back to all this busy-ness.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I realize how much I need to make the time in my day for stillness, to connect with myself so that I can be more present with all my interactions. I’m definitely a work in progress, but grateful for gentle reminders from people I love.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When we can be still, we can be more present. We can truly play and enjoy our children, be supportive during emotional outbursts and appreciate the small moments (that we may miss and not see when we are too busy to even notice)
